Distinguished Ladies in Politics Seek Inclusion Of Young Women in Tinubu’s Administration

The founder and President of Distinguished Ladies in Politics, Princess Balikis Bello on Tuesday June 13, 2023 appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to include young women between ages 18 and 45 in his administration.

Princess Bello stated this at a media briefing in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

She said; “we believe that the role of young women in politics is of utmost importance with their fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and unwavering determination to bring the much-needed dynamism to the decision-making process. We therefore plead for their inclusion in the current dispensation.”

The DLIPs President acknowledged the valuable contributions of older women, who are mostly above 50 years of age, who she said have been part of previous governments.

According to her, “young women deserve to be heard. Their talents deserve to be utilized, and their aspirations too deserve to be nurtured.”

She noted that by ensuring their representation, the government will not only empower young women, but also create a more inclusive and diverse government that truly represents the Nigerian population and its demography.

“Furthermore, as you strive to prioritize the youths in your administration, we implore you to extend this consideration to young women who are also youths.

“Their inclusion will not only amplify the voices of young people, but also harness the immense potentials they possess to contribute their quota to nation building. By providing them with opportunities and platforms, you will empower a generation of female leaders, who will in turn shape the future of our great nation,” she said.

She however, congratulated Bola Tinubu on his election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on behalf of members of DLIPs.

“This remarkable achievement is a testament to your leadership qualities and the trust the Nigerian people have placed in you owing to your foresight, visionary leadership and exceptional contributions towards a metropolitan Lagos that continues to advance on a quantum leap basis.

“The organization identifies with you in the course of your journey to the presidency. Our contributions in galvanizing young Nigerian women across the country towards your emergence as the President are of immense satisfaction that we are overtly and overly proud to avow at any given time,” she said.

Balikis revealed that “DLIPs, established few years ago, is an organization dedicated to empowering women and promoting their active participation in the Nigerian political landscape.

“DlIPs could be found in 20 states of Nigeria, they hold meetings on first and last Saturday of every month in Lagos. States coordinators schedule meeting in their respective states, usually last Saturday of every month, while the organization holds membership convention twice in a year.”
