Former Super Falcons Coach Godwin Izilien Passes On

Ex coach of African champions, Super Falcons, and the Golden Eaglets, Godwin Izilien is dead.

It was learnt that the coach died on Wednesday at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

The details surrounding his death remain sketchy, according to Daily Independent.

Izilien led the Super Falcons to win the 2004 Women’s African Cup of Nations and has been a vocal voice in the Nigerian football ecosystem, always clamouring for the development of the game from the grassroots.

The former coach who according to Saharareporters had begged Godwin Obaseki to pay for his service rendered to Bendel Insurance, also lamented that it was 19 years since the Nigeria Football Federation had refused to pay him his match bonuses which amounted to $12,000.

According to him, the amount was still being owed by the NFF 19 years after he led the Super Falcons to Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2004 to win their 6th African Women’s Championship.

Godwin Izilien said the NFF was yet to also pay his N2 million largesse approved by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
